In 1999, five determined Black Women in Southern New Jersey met to form a NCBW Interest Group. The women had a desire to fill a void that occurred when a former NCBW Chapter dissolved after the death of Alice D. Corsey who served as President from the mid-1980’s until her death in 1997. For the next year and a half, their goal was focused upon recruitment and organizational development. By early 2001, 32 founding members who provided the financial support needed to launch the Chapter had been recruited.

On February 24, 2001, a new Chapter with 39 members was installed and chartered by the National Organization. Symbolically, the installation ceremony was held in the Alice D. Corsey Courtroom, which is located in the Deptford Township Municpal Building in Deptford, NJ. The Chapter has continued to grow and thrive.
